You don’t have to upgrade your S1 version to S2 if your device isn’t supported since the legacy app will still receive bug fixes. Sonos devices make use of multicast which in most cases needs additional router configuration outside of a single subnet. Don't worry all settings and playlists are stored on the speakers so nothing will be lost. Attention: You might run into trouble if your control system (the binding) is in another subnet than your Sonos device. Try uninstalling and reinstalling, be sure to chose 'connect to existing network' on starting new install. These can be controlled by S1 Controller instead, which is also still available on mobile. This binding integrates the Sonos Multi-Room Audio system (opens new window). Unfortunately, it has some limited backward compatibility with some models. Sonos S2, on the other hand, is the new version of the application that features enhanced functionality and supports most of the brand’s modern speakers.
The S1 Controller is the legacy software that no longer gets any major updates. Sonos Controller has two versions: Sonos S1 Controller and Sonos S2.
However, take note that not all Sonos products are compatible with this software. Other features include the ability to search for songs and browse them from your app library, a personalization option for your music preferences, the ability to set alarms, and the option to stream live broadcasts such as radio and podcasts.
